A question we were asked when we started this group was "aren't there enough youth oriented sites spreading the gospel of community involvement?". Well I suppose the answer is yes and no. Yes if you consider the sheer number of youth oriented websites and no if you consider that there are still too many people who have no idea on how to get involved with their community.

Because of this the YPS website has been uniquely designed to offer as many avenues of interaction as possible. Blogs, Comment pages, real world conferences and access to online conversations and videos with real people, as well as plans for real time discussion boards all set the stage for the development of a real on and off line community.

Conflicted Community Roles Recognized

YPS recognizes that the emerging youth, aged somewhere between 18 to 30 something, face a unique set of challenges as far as community involvement is concerned. Carrying memories of school bred idealism but , at the same time, faced with the new roles of breadwinner, career professional, parent, spouse, tax payer, and most importantly, crusader for his own needs, this group of individuals face the everyday dilemma of looking after ones own needs while suffering the guilt of giving up ones ideals. To make matters more difficult, some of today's skill sets fall outside traditional concepts of "real jobs" and therefore suffer some stigma of being frivolous and non-contributory to a national skill inventory.

Our Point of View

YPS believes that taking care of ones personal needs and serving the community are not mutually exclusive events. At its most basic, every activity, as long as it is legal and in the context of a community, is a concrete, individual activity that is critical to nation building.

YPS also believes that the recognition of this fact not only enhances the pride and self worth of the individual as contributing to the progress of our country but also serves as incentive for some individuals to go beyond the ordinary and perhaps allocate a specific part of their efforts to activities outside of their day to day to focus on more specific socio civic activities.
